JAMES CHARLTON is currently the recipient of a $25,000 grant from the Literature Board of the Australia Council. In 2002 he was a guest of the Melbourne Writers' Festival, the Australian Poetry Festival (Sydney) and the Queensland Poetry Festival. His poetry is "flaring with incandescence" (Christopher Bantick). It offers "a state of affirmation and self-transformation … a means to the ineffable, to a new oneness with the world. (Philip Harvey).

James's collection of poems, Luminous Bodies, was published in 2002 by Montpelier Press.

In 2003 James Charlton was appointed Poetry Editor of Island Magazine.
