JUDY McCAULEY lives in Queenstown on Tasmania's magnificent west coast. Raising a family and working in school administration kept the writing pangs at bay but as soon as there was a bit of free space up popped 'Congl' who just wouldn’t go away until his story was put into print. (Who said accountants have no sense of humour!)Her writing reflects both the West Coast’s mining history and its world heritage environment.

Congl - A Little Mt Lyell Magic’ has been reviewed as ‘a, delightful home-grown product, imaginative and quirky'. ‘Congl’ is a conglomerate rock brought to life when the miners blast out ore in the Mt Lyell copper mine in Queenstown. His first story tells how he got his name and found other rock friends in the mine. The book features a cut-out tunnel that takes the reader further through the underground mine as each page is turned, as well as a simple explanation of some types of ore and a short 'did you see' list to look for in the illustrations. Congl is in for more adventures underground with his rock friends and No 2 in the series is on its way (with No 3 to follow soon after...).

Congl is available from West Coast tourist outlets, or to obtain a copy directly from the author send a cheque/money order for $9 + $1 P&H to PO Box 484 Queenstown Tasmania 7467.
