MARY KNIGHTS is the Cultural Development Officer with Hobart City Council, a position which includes responsibility for the Carnegie Gallery and the City of Hobart Art Prize. Prior to her current position, Mary was Program Officer - Visual Art & Literature, with Arts Tasmania.

Mary is a member of the Tasmanian Pacific Region Prizes Advisory Committee and the Plimsoll Gallery Committee, and was on the Organising Committee for the 2003 Tasmanian Readers' and Writer' Festival.

Mary has published numerous essays and reviews and is engaged in curatorial practice, curating and co-curating exhibitions for the Carnegie Gallery, CAST Gallery and the Plimsoll Gallery.

A PhD candidate with the School of Art, University of Tasmania, Mary is currently writing a thesis which explores the relationship between French Symbolist visual artists and writers in the 1890s.
