POSITION VACANT – ADMINISTRATION ASSISTANT WITH THE
TASMANIAN WRITERS' CENTRE


THE TASMANIAN WRITERS' CENTRE is non-for-profit incorporated association with a steadily growing membership base. The TWC’s membership currently stands at almost 500. The TWC is funded by the Tasmanian State Government, through Arts Tasmania, and through the Australia Council, and delivers a comprehensive program that aims to support Tasmanian writers at critical points along the continuum of their creative & professional development. Casual Limited Term Contract
Contract includes and provides for:
• 16 hours per week (over three or four days);
• Remuneration of $18.50 per hour (all inclusive)



DUTY STATEMENT – ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT (CASUAL POSITION)
The Administrative Assistant reports, and provides assistance, to the Executive Director in the administration of the Tasmanian Writers’ Centre’s activities. This position also includes Events Co-ordination, including the TWC’s Workshops and Residencies Programs.

Selection Criteria:
• The Administrative Assistant is very often the public’s first point of contact with the Tasmanian Writers' Centre (TWC). As such this position is foremost in establishing the public face of the TWC and in communicating to its members and the public the role of the TWC and the types of programs that the TWC engages in to assist Tasmanian writers.
• The position of Administrative Assistant calls for a professional approach to all aspects of the job; an ability to appreciate and attend to the needs of the TWC’s members and potential members; an ability to establish and maintain office systems and administrative procedures; a demonstrated ability to co-ordinate events and work within the timeframes that events co-ordination necessarily requires.
• Enthusiasm, a positive approach to customer service and an eye for detail are all required to most effectively carry out the duties of this position.
• This position calls, also, for excellent interpersonal and communication skills, the ability to comprehend enquiries and instructions and the ability to prioritise competing demands.
• The TWC uses a network PC system with the following programmes; Word, Excel, MYOB, FileMaker Pro, Microsoft Outlook Express, Internet Explorer, Mambo (website editor) & Dreamweaver.

The successful applicant will best be able to demonstrate:
• his/her experience in successfully carrying out administrative duties and project co-ordination within an arts organisation
• an understanding of writers’ professional and creative needs;
• an understanding of contemporary Australian writing and/or other related arts practice;
• a desire to pursue a career in arts administration and/or cultural events management.
