SMITH was reared the Mallee region of Northern Victoria. She later
won a teaching scholarship and worked as an Infant Teacher and in lower
primary school before marrying and raising four daughters. Four years
teaching at the Swan Hill Centre for Intellectually Handicapped Children
influenced all her subsequent teaching and was extremely effective with
any child who needed extra help with learning.

Gravatt CAE in Brisbane in 1985 and this led to teaching and program development
