Join Jan Sardi and Tasmanian performance writer Vicki Madden for an outstanding evening on the technicalities of writing for the big screen. Interlaced with clips from his outstanding career, Jan will provide a unique experience for everyone interested in the film industry.

Jan Sardi is one of Australia’s eminent screenwriters. In 1997 he received an Academy Award Nomination for his screenplay Shine, as well as BAFTA, the Writers’ Guild of America and Golden Globes nominations. Jan has won numerous awards for his work in film and television in Australia, including best screenplay for Shine (AFI and AWGIE Awards). In 2003 he wrote and directed the award winning film Love’s Brother, an Australian/UK production. Jan also adapted the hit films The Notebook and Mao’s Last Dancer for the screen. His current projects include adaptations of The Secret River by Kate Grenville and Remarkable Creatures by Tracy Chevalier.
Jan is the current President of the AWG and has been a member for over thirty years. In that time, he has served in various capacities: as a Committee member and Chair of the Victorian Branch, as well as several terms on the National Executive Council. He is also chair of the Feature Film Committee and is on the organising committee for the Guild's flagship event - The National Screenwriters Conference.


Vicki Madden has worked extensively as a Story Producer/Show Runner and writer both here in Australia and overseas. Her credits include: The Bill; Lynda La Plante’s Trial and Retribution and The Clinic, all as show runner and writer.
In Australia Vicki has worked on many prime time dramas includingHalifax fp, Water Rats, Stingers and K9 and developed Sea Patrol for the Nine Network. Last year Vicki wrote the true crime telemovieBlood Brothers (Nine Network) and has been developing several other series for various production companies. She is currently working on a feature film funded by Screen Tasmania and developing a television series based in Tasmania. She is also working with the producers ofBeneath Hill 60 on a television project.
Somehow Vicki also finds time to run the ‘Writing for Television’ on-line course for the AFTRS and heads the AWG in Tasmania.
