ANNE KELLAS is based in Hobart. Her poetry has been published in the USA and Australia and were first published in South Africa when she was 17. Her poetry appears in the anthologies, 'Moorilla Mosaic' (BumbleBee Books); 'Anthology of Tasmanian Verse' (Helen Gee, 2004); and in the South African anthologies, 'Like a house on Fire: Contemporary women's writing and art from South Africa' (Congress of South African Writers, 1994); 'A Writer in Stone' (David Philip, 1998) and in the feature on South African writers in 'Columbia Magazine' (New York) - a selection edited by Nadine Gordimer (no. 10, 1986).
Her first book, 'Poems from Mt Moono', was published by Prof. Shirley Pendlebury's small press in South Africa in 1989 some years after Kellas had migrated to Australia. Her second, 'Isolated States', written with some support from an Arts Tasmania grant, was published in Tasmania in 2001 by Cornford Press (reviewed in Five Bells, Colloquy, Famous Reporter, Thylazine, RedRoom Project, Island).
The UK academic text, 'The Written Poem: Semiotic Conventions from Old to Modern English' (Cassells, UK, 2000) features Kellas among nine other Australian poets. Her more recent poetry has been published in online magazines, mostly in the USA, and in 2004 her poetry is featured on Thylazine (http:www.thylazine.org).
Anne is also a book reviewer (Island, Famous Reporter) and a poetry editor for Famous Reporter. She is co-editor of the online magazine, 'The Write Stuff' (http://www.the-write-stuff.com.au). Her online essay 'The State of Writing in South Africa' and her online blog, 'North of the Latte Line', have received some critical acclaim. |
