About me

Location: Overseas
Biog:

Hello, I'm Ratih Kumala. You can call me Ratih. I was born in Jakarta-Indonesia in 1980. I write three books up to now: Tabula Rasa-a novel, Genesis-a novel and Larutan Senja-collected fiction.

I won some writing competitions for novel and short fiction. Beside fiction I also write script for stage, one of them is Sapi (translated into German as Die Kuh / The Cow) a shadow puppet theater for children that had performed in Geman by a young Indonesian artist, Herlambang Bayu Aji -or well known as Gundul- on April 2006.

I graduated from English Literature, Sebelas Maret University in Surakarta-Indonesia. Now, beside working on my own writing project, I'm also editor for Metafor Publsihing-Jakarta, Indonesia [visit: www.metaforpublishing.com] and recently write script for Sesame Street Indonesia

I live in Jakarta with my husband, Eka Kurniawan who is also a writer [ www.ekakurniawan.com ].  I'd like to meet everyone who is interested in literature and would like to learn more about abroad's literature. If you'd like, please email me: ratihkumala@gmail.com

~cheers!~

Ps. Please visit, see my pic, see my books' cover, write on my guestbook :)

Current Projects:

I am now working on a graphic novel, I have some planned titles. However I think I will use the one Mangkuk Salad (Salad Bowl in English) and plan to publish it not only in bahasa Indonesia but also in English as well. I write my own story as well as draw the illustration.

Beside graphic novel, I also write a novel about Betawi people (the original community of Jakarta, Indonesia's capital) with  Nugroho Suksmanto. The novel entitled Wak Wak Kung (it is taken from a traditional children group game) So...wish me luck! :)
