They say everyone has a novel inside them - does yours have dragons in it? Award-winning fantasy author Tansy Rayner Roberts will take you on a year-long journey to take your fantasy novel from first concept through characterisation, structure, theme, direction, and actually writing chapters! Other important aspects of the genre will be dealt with, like worldbuilding, magic systems, Good vs. Evil, epic journeys, and What Not To Do. You should end this course with several chapters written, a firm outline, plot and structure, a firm set of worldbuilding systems under your feet, and a clear idea of how to get your novel written all the way through to the end. The transcript of the chat session and detailed notes will be emailed to all students each month, so that you can participate in the class even if the chat session is not at a convenient time for you. A forum on the Tas Writer’s Centre website will enable students to post work for feedback throughout the year. You will be encouraged to work steadily at your own pace, and exercises will be designed with the assumptions that the students have a variety of writing speeds and amounts of work they can get done per month. The important thing is to figure out a writing routine and techniques that work for you, and Tansy will work closely with you to design your own specialised writing programme. The cost of this course is only $250 for TWC members and $330 for others. Be quick to book your place. Contact the TWC on 6224 0029 or email admin@tasmanianwriters.org then post your cheque or phone through with your credit card details.
