Island of Residencies in 2009 Applications for the 2009 Island of Residencies program will be invited from 1st September from published writers living in each and every Australian state and territory and from writers from all around the world.
Writers living on islands are particularly encouraged to apply. Residencies are available between March and November 2009 for writers who have published work on any subject, in any form including fiction, non-fiction, poetry, writing for children and/or young adults, and writing for the stage. The names of the 2009 Island of Residencies candidates will be posted on this site by 1 March 2009.
In 2009 successful candidates will be provided with: · Return economy air travel from their home where required. · Accommodation for the duration of their residency in Tasmania · A contribution of $AUD 200 per week towards living costs during the residency. Successful candidates will be required to: · Work on a particular project (as indicated in their application for a residency) during their residency in Tasmania · Present two x one-day (6 hour) writing workshops to emerging and/or developing writers within Tasmania · Give at least one public reading and/or participate in a public discussion about a subject relating to the resident's writing · Make themselves available for media events to promote the Island of Residencies program · Meet informally with local writers regarding the latter's writing · Acknowledge the support of the Tasmanian Writers' Centre, and any other supporting agencies, in any publication containing work written, in part or in whole, arising from or written as a consequence of their residency within the Island of Residencies program. Please note that writers intending to apply for the Launceston City / Gorge Writer's Residency must familiarise themselves with the selection criteria. The writing project for this particular residency must relate strictly to the criteria as outlined by Launceston City Council. Note also, that writers wishing to apply for this residency MUST apply via the Island of Residencies Program in order to have their rent, travel, etc covered via this program. Note: The successful candidate for the TWC / PEI Writer's Residency will need to fund his / her own travel to and from Tasmania, as is the agreement for the TWC / PEI Writer's Exchange Program.
