Members' Library

Books to inspire, books to teach, books for research and books for the love of reading - the Tasmanian Writers' Centre library is growing.

We have been working hard to expand our collection of good books. Thanks to kind donations by all our Away With Words broadsheet authors, individuals including Megan Schaffner, and many of our visiting writers, our library is shaping into a valuable resource for our members. Our non-fiction section (catalogued by Dewey Decimal classification) has books on the craft of writing, biographies of literary figures including a variety of Tasmanians, books on Tasmanian history and more. Our selection of fiction includes many works by Tasmanian authors and works in a variety of genres. Our poetry section includes many notable Tasmanian poets, as well as poetry from around Australia and the world. We also hold a selection of journals and anthologies - these are a good way to see what is being published and where - children's picture books, plays and a reference section. We also keep newsletters from other writing organisations so do pop in to have a browse.

Browse our Catalogue: With over 1000 books now added to our online library catalogue at The Library Thing, it's easy for you to browse our collection here.

Reserve a Book: If you see a book you would like to borrow, send an email to us at admin@tasmanianwriters.org and we can put it aside for you to collect. Members living outside of Hobart can arrange postage.

Volunteer: We still have plenty of work to do in our library. If you have a few hours to spare on a Tuesday or Thursday morning, and would like to assist with the library we would love to have your help. We need help with cataloguing, shelving and labelling, so whether you have computer and library skills or not, we can use your help. Just send us an email to volunteers@tasmanianwriters.org to join our volunteer register, and let us know when you can pop in.
