Postcard from India #2

The relentless dust and middle class nonsense of the trip to Select City Walk has unsettled me. An emerging middle class in India has a love affair with all that is artificial. Huge western style shopping malls back to back have been built on the edge of the city - as large as the century old historical monuments themselves.  They are the new meccas - I arrive - I want to run.  A tuk tuk  takes me back through the afternoon traffic to safety. But somehow I am not immune - a last minute smooth-talking sales assistant has convinced me I need a ridiculously expensive nail improving kit  - what was I thinking – I hug it to my chest somehow comforted in this dusty desert city.
